RECAP: 2026 CHSAA 5A STATES

Last weekend, 9 of our Sabercats represented CV by competing at STATES!! We are so proud of all of you, there was a lot of tough competition.

3 of our Sabercats walked away with hard-earned medals - congratulations to Zaret winning 1st place, Jacob winning 2nd place, and Mimi winning 6th place!

Here's a recap of the grueling 3-day weekend:

Varsity Team

125 Evelyn Lilo - went 1-2 for the weekend. She lost her first match on Thursday by Fall 4:45. On Friday, she won her next match Decision 7-2, and lost her 3rd match by Fall 3:51.

126 Jacob Ness - earned 2nd place, went 3-1 for the weekend. He won his first 2 matches on Thursday, one by Tech Fall 21-3, and his next one by Fall 1:32. Friday night he won his semi-finals match by Decision 15-10, earning a spot in the Parade of Champions for finals on Saturday night. Saturday, he went against the #1 seed, losing by Fall 3:07 for 2nd place.

130 Zaret Silva Lopez - earned 1st place, as the first CV girl to win a state title going 4-0! She won her first 2 matches on Thursday by Fall 1:01, and by Fall 3:11. Friday night she won her semi-finals match by Decision 2-0, earning a spot in the Parade of Champions for finals on Saturday night. Saturday, she battled the #2 seed, winning her first state title by Decision 2-0! Congrats Zaret!!

135 BellaRay Fiske - went 2-2 for the weekend. She lost her first match on Thursday by Fall 3:49. Friday, she won her next 2 matches by Fall 4:56 & by Fall 2:07. She battled in the blood rounds for her final match on Friday night, losing by Fall 2:54.

140 Alizah Piasecki - went 1-2 for the weekend. She lost her first match on Thursday by Fall 1:31. Friday, she won her next match by Decision 8-6. Her 3rd match she lost by Fall 2:55.

145 Annalie Carlson - went 0-2 for the weekend. She lost her first match on Thursday by Fall 0:47, and lost her 2nd match by Fall 1:53.

165 Carter Henman - went 0-2 for the weekend. He lost his first match on Thursday by Decision 9-3, and lost his second match by Fall 2:45.

190 Mimi Mendoza - earned 6th place, went 2-3 for the weekend. She won her first 2 matches on Thursday by Fall 2:35, and by Fall 3:05. Friday, she lost in her semi-finals match by Fall 1:18. Saturday morning she had her consolation semis match, losing by Decision 10-7. Then she battled for 5th/6th place on Saturday, earning 6th place with a loss by Fall 2:35.

215 Koden Ochoa - went 0-2 for the weekend. He lost his first match on Thursday by Fall 1:27, and lost his second match by Fall 0:34.
