Expectations & Consequences

Expectations of being a CV wrestler:
-
Be on time for practice and dual meets wearing appropriate gear
-
Mat cleaning - everyone must help
-
Shower after every practice at the school
-
Communicate any injury during practices or competition to the coaches
-
Follow weight management plan
-
Follow the hierarchy of communication
-
Holiday break practices – All varsity wrestlers will attend these practices or will be subject to possible removal from the varsity squad.

Attitude and effort – 100% effort and positive attitude
-
No foul language at any time, you are at school and representing CVHS
-
Stay at competitions until every CV wrestler is done wrestling
-
Dress up with dress shirts and slacks on competition days. On the day before a dual, captains will be involved with choosing what wrestlers will wear.
Everyone is a member of the team and each wrestler is important, not just varsity wrestlers.
Each wrestler should be at practice for the entire season through the state tournament.

Grades – You must not have more than two D’s or one F in order to compete during that week. We get an eligibility report on Tuesday or Wednesday so make sure your grades are up and assignments turned in.

Lettering criteria:
1. State qualifier
2. Regional place winners
3. Win 12 varsity matches
4. An athlete may letter based on the coaches’ professional judgment as to his/her contribution to the team

Offseason Points:
To be considered for a captain (on the ballot) 135 pts.
1. Pre/Post Season Practices (10 practices) – 5 pts
2. Participation in Summer Weight Training – 5 pts per week
3. Weight training session (during school day, minimum of 1 hr) – 15 pts/qtr
4. National Freestyle/Folkstyle Tournament – 15 pts (proof of registration must be submitted)
5. Summer Camp – 30 pts
6. Cadet/Junior Nationals (Fargo) – 30 pts/per style (proof of registration must be submitted)
7. Participation in Spring sport – 20 pts
8. Participation in Fall Sport – 20 pts
9. Full participation in team-building activities – 5 pts
10. Local CUSAW Events – 10 pts/style (proof of registration must be submitted)

Practice and Match Expectations and Consequences
Practice:
-
Arrive ready for practice on time
-
For every 5 minutes you are late to the practice mat, you will do 5 burpees
-
-
No laying down or sitting on your rear during practice time
-
Each time you violate this policy you will do 10 pushups
-
-
Active water breaks - during the water break go get water, while waiting for others to arrive back you are doing stance-in-motion, jogging, drilling, etc.
-
No foul language
-
1st time is a warning
-
2nd time you will do 5 burpees with push ups
-
3rd time you will do 10 burpees with push ups
-
4th time you may be asked to leave practice
-
-
Talking back to coaches disrespectfully
-
1st time 5 sprints after practice
-
2nd time 10 more springs after practice
-
3rd time you may be asked to leave practice
-
-
Improperly equipped for practice (forget mouthguard, headgear, practice gear, etc.)
-
5 burpees for each infraction
-

Music - must be clean playlist
-
1st time you’ll be asked to fix it
-
2nd time no more music during that practice
-
3rd time no music for the rest of that week
-
4th time no more music during practice for the season

Matches:
-
Arrive on time according to the handbook.

For every 5 minutes you are late for a match, you will do 5 burpees at the next practice

Missing weight
-
25 burpees and 10 sprints at the next practice
-

Improperly equipped for match (forget mouthguard, headgear, singlet, shoes, etc.) and properly groomed (shaved, nails clipped, etc.)

10 burpees for each infraction
-
-
Bench expectations - no cellphones, no friends near bench, focus on wrestling and what is happening on the mat, no disrespectful attitude or speech
-
1 sprint for each infraction at the next practice
-
Individual Match Expectations (dual and tournament)
-
First wrestler back to middle on each restart
-
1 sprint at the next practice each time they beat you back to the center
-
-
Getting pinned (unacceptable)
-
If you get pinned - 10 bridges on the wall and 10 burpees before practice (for each pin)
-
Individual Dual/Tournament Awards
-
HUSTLE BACK AWARD - Each dual or tournament day, coaches will choose one wrestler who defines our commitment to hustle back to the middle. This wrestler will be rewarded by not having to help with mat roll out, cleaning and mat roll up the next practice and also be the first to get Gatorade/Muscle Milk from the office at the next practice.

PINNING - Each wrestler who gets a pin during the dual/tournament will have to do 2 less sprints than the rest of the team at the next practice.

SPORTSMANSHIP - Each dual or tournament day, coaches will choose one wrestler who defines our commitment to sportsmanship and will be awarded with the choice of music at the next practice.
